Century, Inc. is currently seeking a new team member in our CNC Lathe department. The person in this position sets up and operates a CNC lathe to perform machining operations.



The ideal CNC Lathe Operator candidate will:

  • Be detail oriented

  • Have experience with or the ability to quickly learn Epicor, our company’s manufacturing software.
  • Be able to read, understand and follow product blueprints
  • Have experience with and the knowledge to properly use a micrometer and other required machinist tools
  • Have the ability to gather and analyze information to efficiently identify and resolve problems or develop new solutions
  • Be willing to learn about our customers and industry

A CLC Lathe Operator will be expected to:

  • Read process sheets, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements.
  • Mount work piece between centers, in chuck, or to faceplate.
  • Select and install preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or indexing heads, and automatic tool change magazine, in sequence specified on process sheet.
  • Depress buttons, toggles, and starts machining operation.
  • Observe control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts.
  • Inspect first run piece and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications.
  • Study job packet and organizes materials for next run during automatic controlled cycles to shorten changeover time.
  • Set tools before positioning them in lathe.
  • Follow weekly schedule to turn jobs to meet shipping deadlines.
  • Maintain machine maintenance and cleanliness, fill out proper checklists.


Education and/or Experience    


High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.



Language Skills                                             


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills   


Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


                        Other Qualifications  


Applicant must be in good physical condition and able to push and pull heavy carts, pick up or carry heavy objects.
